New to Homeschool?

Learn where to begin

Deciding to homeschool for the first time can be overwhelming. The information on this site is giving you the basic online resources that you need to begin homeschooling in California.

Homeschool Legal Defense Association
https://www.hslda.org

When homeschooling on your own, we highly recommend you become a member of HSLDA. This organization fights for parental rights throughout the United States and stays involved in national decisions that might harm our freedoms. They offer personal advice to support and equip homeschool families. As a member you have access to many resources and to talk with a representative of our state to help you with any questions you have.

They have a great online resource for those that are getting started:

California Home Educators of California

This organization is a non-profit ministry established in 1982 to provide information, support, and training to the home education community throughout California to protect the God-given right of parents.

Legal Options for Homeschool
http://californiahomeschool.net/howTo/legOpt.htm

In the state of California it is legal to file your own affidavit for your own private school affidavit and keep your own records & files or you can join a local service and for a fee, they will help you with the process and forms that need to be generated each year for your children. If you decide to file your own, HSLDA offers helpful information on how you can do that through the State of California.
